Book Tropes I (Secretly) Love

Last week I shared a bunch of book tropes that I couldn’t stand, so I thought I would be more positive today by sharing all these book tropes that I love.

Image result for its a guilty pleasure gif

Here they are:

  • The Chosen One

There are so many books where the protagonist is described as “the chosen one.” I don’t care are cliche this trope is, I always have fun reading about these chosen ones.

  • Evil Characters with a Tough Past

I love when these evil antagonists have reasons for their evil actions. Many evil characters are evil “just because,” which I find so annoying. These characters should have a past and a reason for their actions.

  • The Protagonist Starts a Rebellion

In many YA books, the story line includes a main protagonist that fires up a war against the society they are living in. I personally find this extremely interesting and fun to read about, even though others may find it annoying.

  • The Quest

I love in books when there is a huge journey and quest the characters must go on to achieve their goal. Many times there is romance, and fighting, and wars all mashed together and I always enjoy reading it!

Weekend Reads (1/25-1/27)

I haven’t been doing much reading since the new school semester has started. Although, I try to take advantage of the weekends, even though I have work often.

Here is what I’m hoping to read.

  • Along Came a Spider by James Patterson

I don’t read much James Patterson anymore, but I really want to read this one because it was one of his first books, and I’m interested to see if I like it or not.

Nope Book Tag

Check out the original tag here: hhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyospsYnjHk

(Please don’t be mad at me after this tag! Lol.)

1. NOPE. Ending: A book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage, or simply because the ending was crappy.

The ending of Allegiant by Veronica Roth pissed me off so much! I felt that I wasted my time on that book and the ending really tainted my experience of the series.

Image result for allegiant book

2. NOPE. Protagonist: A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

I did not like the main character from Caraval by Stephanie Garber at all. I felt that the character was so bland and had no personality at all and there was no substance to it.

Image result for caraval book

3. NOPE. Series: A series that turned out to be one huge pile of NOPE. after you’ve invested all of that time and energy on it, or a series you gave up on because it wasn’t worth it anymore.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I really enjoyed the first book, but as the series went on I lost all interest in the plot, characters, and romance.

Image result for vampire academy series

4. NOPE. Popular pairing: A “ship” you don’t support.

JEM AND TESSA. I’m probably going to get hate for this one, but I’m a hardcore Will and Tessa shipper and I just CAN’T deal with the “Jessa” ship. (please don’t hate me.)

Image result for Jem and tessaImage result for the infernal devices

5. NOPE. Plot twist: A plot twist you didn’t see coming or didn’t like.

The plot twist at the end of The Beach House by James Patterson was so shocking, and I didn’t see it coming!

Image result for the beach house james patterson

6. NOPE. Protagonist action/decision: A character decision that made you shake your head NOPE.

Anything that Tris Prior did honestly. Lol.

7. NOPE. Genre: A genre you will never read.

For me personally, erotica is not for me. I have nothing against people who read it, but It’s just not my style.

8. NOPE. Book format: Book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition

I honestly don’t really care about covers/editions of books. I just love to read. I will read a book in any format. For me, It’s about the story inside.

9. NOPE. Trope: A trope that makes you go NOPE.

I hate the trope of the main (usually female) characters that is a virgin, has never been in love before, doesn’t party and is a total prude.

Honestly, this annoys me so much. It seems pretty close to shaming girls who DO party and are more experienced, when there is nothing wrong with that.

10. NOPE. Recommendation: A book recommendation that is constantly hyped and pushed at you that you simply refuse to read.

I READ ALL THE HYPED BOOKS!!!

11. NOPE. Cliche/pet peeve: A cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

The overly done writing that is meant to be “poetic.” Sometimes authors and writers try way to hard to be relatable and poetic, when all I want is their authentic writing.

12. NOPE. Love interest: The love interest that’s not worthy of being one. A character you don’t think should have been a viable love interest.

Adam from the Shatter Me series. He was so annoying to me.

13. NOPE. Book: A book that shouldn’t have existed that made you say NOPE.

Truly Devious. I read this book because there was so much hype about it, and I was so disappointed and bored.

14. NOPE. Villain: A scary villain/antagonist you would hate to cross and would make you run in the opposite direction.

Queen Levana from The Lunar Chronicles. That women scares me!!

15. NOPE. Death: A character death that still haunts you.

This death is from the Harry Potter series!!!!

————–

Fred’s death made me so sad that I pretty much balled my eyes out. The Harry Potter book that I read from literally still has tear stains on it. LOL!

16. NOPE. Author: An author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit.

I can’t get into Sarah J. Maas’ books. I’m so sick of the all straight white characters that are exactly the same. I have completely stopped reading her books for many reasons, that one being the biggest.

  • Do You Hear What I Hear: Which book do you think everyone should read?

I think that everyone should read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I think this book has such an important message and is so relevant to things that are happening in society today.

The Joy of Christmas Book Tag

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time for Christmas! This tag was created in 2015, but I wanted to do it!

 1) Anticipation: The Christmas excitement is real, what book release(s) are you most anticipating?

I’m so excited for new books to come out from my favorite authors. Here a some that I’m very excited for:

– King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

-Again, But Better by Christine Riccio

-On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

2) Christmas Songs & Carols: What book or author can you not help but sing it’s praises?

Marissa Meyer! I never stop raving about all of her books. People may call me bias, but I honestly love her books and have read every single one.

3) Gingerbread Houses: What book or series has wonderful world building?

Harry Potter. As unoriginal as is must sound, it’s true. Harry Potter is so well thought out and everything wraps up so well in the end and i think it’s much more complicated than we notice the first time we read it.

4) A Christmas Carol: Favorite classic or one that you want to read

I really want to read more classics! Although, I’m a huge fan of Shakespeare. Hamlet is my favorite of his works (if that counts as a classic.)

5) Christmas Sweets: What book would you love to receive for Christmas

Any Book!!

6) Candles in the Window: What book gives you that warm fuzzy feeling

What if It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli! This book was such a cute story and felt so similar to a rom-com.

7) Christmas Trees & Decorations: What are some of your favorite book covers?

Image result for cute YA book covers           Image result for cute YA book covers

8) Christmas Joy: What are some of your favorite things about Christmas And/Or some of your favorite Christmas memories?

Christmas is my favorite time of the entire year. It’s a time that I have to reflect on what I’m thankful for. I have the most amazing family in the entire world, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Putting up my Christmas tree really allows me to take a trip down memory lane and really think back at old memories.

The Fall Book Tag

Hi everyone! I’ve been gone for a little while, but I’m happy to be back. 🙂

I will be doing the Fall book tag.

The original tag is from the bionic book Worm: https://bionicbookwormblog.wordpress.com/2017/09/09/fall-book-tag/

This is where I found the tag:

https://darquedreamerreads.wordpress.com/2017/10/09/the-fall-book-tag/

  • Crisp Fall Air: a book that felt fresh and new

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. It was my first Liane Moriarty book and it completely rocked my world. I tore through that book in about two days and I absolutely love it. I read mainly YA fiction, so it felt so different from what I usually read!

  • Howling Winds: an ending that blew you away

I obviously don’t want to spoil anything, but this book is from an author that I don’t read much of anymore. I slowly stopped reading this author because I feel that all his books are just the exact same every time. Although this books was amazing. The ending was so shocking and I was surprised!

  • Leaf Fight: a book with non-stop action

I felt that Cress by Marissa Meyer was such an amazing book. I think that it had so much action and I really enjoyed it.

  • Pumpkin Spice: you most anticipated read

My most anticipated read of 2018 is Arch-Enemies by Marissa Meyer. Marissa Meyer is one of my all time favorite authors and I love all of her books. I read Renegades and absolutely loved it, so I’m so excited to read her next book in the series.

  • Comfy Sweaters: a book that gave you warm fuzzies

This may seem like an odd choice, but Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by J.K Rowling makes me feel like this. Thinking about harry potter just makes me feel so happy, and it just reminds me of when I was younger reading for the first time, so it gives me warm fuzzies.

  • Bright Colors: a cover with either red, orange, or yellow

This is a book that I haven’t read in a long time, but I wanted to bring so throwback books on here.

The Poisonous Book Tag //

I just came across this tag on booktube and I really wanted to do it!

This is the original tag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnHHMrwrDpo

The Questions:

  •   A book with poison in the story or title

The only book that I own that has the word “poison” in it is the Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. I haven’t read this book yet, but it is on my July TBR

  •   “Pick your poison” – a guilty pleasure book

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. This book definitely isn’t one of the best written books, but I had SO much fun reading it. The characters may be extremely annoying and agitating at points, but I secretly gave it 4 stars because I enjoyed reading it!

  •  A book with awesome character development

Scott from Down and Across by Arvin Ahmadi made so much development throughout the story. It starts with a boy who isn’t serious about what he wnts to do with his life, and ends the novel with a bit more “grit” then he had before. I feel like many people haven’t read this book, but I definitely recommend that you do.

  • Favorite coming of age story

The Harry Potter series is coming of age. We meet Harry when he is just a young boy, and he grows to become a brave man.

  • A book where a virus or illness is a massive part of the story

The Program by Suzanne Young. In this book teen suicide is an epidemic. As much as I disagree about suicide being a “disease,” it is a huge topic of the book and fits this question.

  •  A book with a kickass character who don’t need no love interest

Zélie from Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. She is one of the strongest female characters I’ve read in a long time. It made me so happy to see a strong character that isn’t completely prideful that doesn’t immediately lose her strength because of a boy. Some people may grow tired of her stubbornness and sometimes rude comments, but I love her.
